For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a saxophonist. At the age of 5, I became transfixed when my family came upon a busker playing the saxophone inside Chicago’s Union Station. Although my mother was able to eventually pull me away from that magical soundscape, the imprint of the saxophone was deeply embedded in my soul. I knew I would have to wait several years before I could begin to play, but when that moment eventually arrived, there was no turning back. Now, as my own artist, I often think back to that moment when the saxophone so dramatically bewitched my spirit. What was it about that experience that drove me to become a musician? Not only did I choose to play and study the saxophone, but I’ve made it my career. For well over two decades, performing and teaching the saxophone has been my life’s work.
